Access is a legal duty here

Safe, inclusive, and durable lift solutions for modern education.

Modern schools, colleges, and university campuses are bustling, multi-storey environments where hundreds of students, teachers, and visitors move between classrooms and lecture theatres in tight lesson changeovers. Ensuring barrier-free, independent access for pupils with special educational needs (SEN), wheelchair users, and injured staff is not only a vital commitment to inclusivity, it is a strict statutory duty under the Equality Act 2010.

Sheridan Lifts provides dependable, durable, and safe vertical transport solutions tailored specifically to the UK education sector. Whether you are developing a new-build academy or upgrading aging lifts in a multi-level college block, we deliver high-efficiency passenger lifts and space-saving DDA platform lifts engineered for heavy student footfall. Installed and maintained by enhanced DBS-checked engineers, our educational lifts prioritise child safety, energy efficiency, and total statutory compliance.

Lifts that suit education

Pupils, equipment, and the buildings you already have.

Most school lift projects are retrofits into buildings that were never designed for one.

8–13 person typical
Passenger lifts

The standard answer in newer blocks and larger colleges, sized for class-change peaks rather than average use.

To 500 kg · 0.15 m/s
Platform lifts

The usual retrofit into an existing building — a compact footprint, no deep pit, and enough capacity for a wheelchair user and an assistant.

1–6 steps
Step & short-rise lifts

Over an entrance step, a half-landing or into a hall. Often the whole answer for a single-storey site with a level change.

01 / Working on a school site

Safeguarding comes before the programme.

Engineers on education sites are DBS checked, signed in and escorted to the same standard as any other contractor working near pupils.

Where work has to run in term time, it is hoarded, out of pupil circulation routes, and stopped at the times you tell us to stop.

02 / Funding and planning

The quote has to survive a budget cycle.

School capital decisions are made months ahead and often against a fixed accessibility grant. A quote that expires in thirty days is not much use.

We price education work to hold across a planning cycle and we will phase a project across two holidays where the budget needs it.

Evacuation of pupils with disabilities is a fire-strategy question as well as a lift one. Where an evacuation lift is specified, its monthly function test sits with the responsible person for the building.
