The examination, the report, the certificate.
Thorough examination under LOLER 1998, carried out by our own examiners on any make of lift. One organisation, one visit, one document — no third-party inspection body to chase.

Written scheme
The law puts this on the lift owner.
Under the Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998, responsibility for thorough examination sits with whoever controls the lift — the building owner, the landlord or the employer. Not the maintenance company.
That surprises a lot of people, and it is the reason we carry out the examination ourselves and issue the report directly. The duty is visibly discharged and the paperwork is in one place when an inspector or insurer asks for it.
- Examination is a legal duty separate from routine maintenance
- We examine lifts we do not maintain, and vice versa
- Reports issued to you directly, not held on a portal you rent
- Defects graded so you know what must be fixed before use
Three stages, one visit.
A thorough examination is a systematic check against a written scheme, not a look and a signature.
Shaft, pit, headroom, ropes, safety gear, overspeed governor, brakes, doors and controls checked against the written scheme for that lift type.
A written report of thorough examination naming every defect found, graded by whether it is an immediate danger, a defect to remedy by a date, or an observation.
Where defects need work we quote it as a separate job. There is no obligation to use us — the report stands on its own and can go to any contractor.
How often your lift must be examined.
Any lift designed to carry people must be thoroughly examined at least every six months, whether it is a passenger lift, a bed lift, a platform lift or a step lift.

An immediate danger stops the lift.
Where an examination finds a defect that presents an existing or imminent risk of serious injury, the lift must be taken out of service and the report goes to the enforcing authority as well as to you.
This is rare, and it is always better found by an examiner than by a passenger. Most findings are remedy-by-date items that can be planned.
The report is what gets asked for.
Insurers, HSE inspectors and prospective buyers all ask for the same thing: the current report of thorough examination and evidence that named defects were remedied.
We keep a copy on file for the life of the contract, but the original is issued to you so it never sits behind someone else’s login.

Where a written scheme of examination is drawn up by a competent person, intervals can differ from the defaults. We can prepare one where a lift’s duty cycle justifies it.
Thorough examination at statutory intervals, carried out and certified in house.
Current lift safety standard for design and installation, with declaration of conformity at handover.
Accessibility — car dimensions, controls, signals and door dwell times.
Firefighting lifts, including secondary supply and protected lobby requirements.
Safe working on lifts — the code of practice our engineers work to on every site.
Accredited environmental and occupational health and safety management systems.
Examination programmes we run
Examination programme across bed, goods and evacuation lifts, scheduled around ward activity.
Single examination calendar across a residential portfolio, with one consolidated report pack per quarter.
Passenger, platform and dumbwaiter lifts examined on their correct separate intervals.
Goods lifts examined on a twelve-month cycle timed to a planned shutdown.
Not sure when yours was last examined. Ask us.
Send the make, model and location and we will tell you which interval applies and what it costs to bring the record up to date.
