Why lift maintenance is crucial for your business
Here at Sheridan Lifts, we understand the drill. Lifts are expensive, they’re a huge investment for any business but for many of those businesses they’re very much a critical need rather than a ‘nice to have’. Our lift engineers fit very few brand-new lifts for clients who might want to use them ‘just in case’ […]
How an Elevator Car Is Constructed
The only major change that has taken place in elevators over the past 50 years is the control systems. Elevators themselves are fairly simple devices, the basic lifting system being basically the same as it always has. Each new elevator is designed for a specific building, taking into account such factors as the height of […]
Does Your Building Need an Elevator Consultant?
If you own a building, then odds are you probably rely on a resident “elevator expert” – usually the elevator service company – for any information on the health and status of your elevators. Have you ever taken your car to a new garage for the first time and had the sinking feeling that you […]
How To Keep Lift Maintenance Service And Repair Costs to a Minimum
An unwanted addition to any facilities budget is unexpected elevator repair. If a breakdown does occur, then businesses need things to be repaired so they are up and running as quickly as possible. The time lift systems are not operational can end up costing the business a lot of money. Not only can visitors and […]
Guidelines On Modernising An Existing Lift
As our city spaces become more condensed, the need for vertical lift travel becomes more and more necessary. Lifts exist in most tall buildings today; the heavy day-to-day use of these systems means that wear and tear is unfortunately inevitable. Lifts have been installed in building for decades now. Although most existing lifts were installed […]
Breaking The Limits Of Lift Design
If you’ve been lucky enough to travel to the top of London’s tallest skyscraper the Shard, then you may have been surprised to have had to change elevators in order to make it all the way to the top. This transfer floor, or “Sky Lobby” as it’s more commonly known, is a necessary inconvenience for […]
Most Common Lift and Escalator Accidents
Lifts are a highly useful part of everyday life. When used properly, elevators are a safe and easy way to travel between floors; however, there are some risks involved with using lifts and escalators. Nearly 10,000 people require a trip to A&E each year due to accidents involving lifts and escalators. Knowing the risks, and […]
Unique Elevator Designs: Part 2
Lifts in the UK very rarely vary by design. But across the rest of the world engineers have been getting creative on how they design elevators. You wouldn’t think there wasn’t much room for variety on a box that travels up and down a shaft; but after flirting with imagination, engineers have created some truly […]
The Future of Lift Maintenance
As we look to the future, the logistics surrounding elevator maintenance become more of a challenge. More and more companies are installing lift systems, and if one of them should fail, ever evolving obstacles are slowing the speed of repairs. Inner city buildings pose a problem: If an elevator should break down, and current on-call […]
How Do They Work?
Some of us use them every day, but do we actually know how they work? Elevators are a part of our daily lives, and were a vital part of history; as they allowed cities to expand vertically as well as horizontally. We owe a lot to elevators. So to honour one of the greatest inventions, […]
The Key Signs Of A Faulty Lift
There’s nothing worse than being stuck in a broken lift. Picture yourself in a massive rush to get up to the office in time, only to end up waiting ages for the lift to arrive. You hurry inside, cramped in with everyone else, and let out an audible groan as the lift decides to break […]
Could you really survive an elevator fall?
There are numerous sources of advice and tips on how to survive an elevator fall or accident, but are any of the guides actually accurate? We’ve all probably heard the little nugget of advice that, in the event of an elevator you are travelling in free-falling, you should jump up at the very last second […]
Korea takes elevator safety very seriously
Have you ever been stuck in a lift? Not even necessarily for a long time, maybe a minute or two, or the doors failed to open on the first try? We use lifts so much these days, especially as our buildings just keep getting taller and taller, that it’s probably happened to most of us […]
Going down?
As an established lift company, we thought we’d heard every story relating to lifts and we’ve definitely heard of people getting a little frisky in a lift from time to time, however, we’ve never seen a lift being blamed for a person’s lack of libido – until now. A woman in Australia is suing her […]
It’s all downhill…
We’re constantly preaching the necessity of lift maintenance for every type of lift. Whether you, as a building or a company, have platform lifts, dumbwaiter lifts or even a scissor lift, you need to ensure regular lift maintenance is carried out. This is because, over time, despite the quality of the lift installation and the […]

Don’t take your lifts for granted
We all take the lifts for granted in modern multi storey buildings. Unless we are on a fitness drive, most of us never even consider taking the stairs. We simply step into the lift and assume it will whisk us efficiently and safely up to the floor we want. But just stop for a moment […]
